TAKE A TOUR

This Portion of the app is still under construction. THE FOLLOWING SCRIPT IS ACCURATE BUT A video tour is coming soon.

thank you for your interest in how’s your prayer life.  you should know that this app is much more than a prayer tracker.  hows your prayer life walks you through a process of prayer that starts with praise and thanksgiving.  this is followed by confession and repentance.  once you have done these, you are prepared to make your request.  then you will conclude your prayer by yielding before god for a designated time.  before you can begin using the app, you must set up your prayer request.  this tour is designed to help you not only learn how to set up a request, but give you ideas of some great ways to organize your prayer request and make the most of the prayer enhancing aids found in the app.

All prayer request and reminders are listed on the Add a Request page.  Once you have set up some request and reminders, they will be listed on this page below the area where the requests or reminders are input. All reminders are listed at the top.  The current prayers for someone else are listed next.  The current prayers for ourselves are after that.  Answered prayers are at the bottom, followed by prayers that are turned off.  You will see the importance of this later on.

Lets look at some of the differences between prayer request and reminders.

All reminders are listed at the top of the page.  The date added and the description of the reminder is listed.  There is also a remove button.  This will delete the reminder.

Both current prayers for others and current prayers for me have the same information listed. The date added, the last day prayed for, the person’s name and prayer description and the frequency of the prayer request. You can mark the prayer answered, turn it off or remove the request. If you turn off the request, it will move to the bottom of this page under prayers that are turned off.  If you remove the request, it is deleted permanently.

When adding a prayer request or reminder, you simply fill in the blanks and select the correct item from the drop down list where applicable. Each time you are going to choose if you are setting up a reminder or if you are setting up a request.  If it is a request, is it for someone else or yourself?  If it is for someone else, input their name and a description of the prayer request. Then you select the prayer frequency.  You can set a range of dates, a specific date or you can choose a certain day of the week, month or year.  If it is for yourself, the only difference is you don’t enter the name.  If it is a reminder, the name and description are combined into one field.

As you set up request and reminders, it is important to know that the type of request or reminder you set up and the frequency you set up will determine when and where the request or reminder will be displayed on the ASK page each day. The ASK page displays your reminders and requests in the same order as the Add a request page.  Reminders at the top. Requests for others in the middle and requests for yourself on the bottom.

Before you begin setting up prayer request, you may want to consider organizing your ongoing request, the things that you will always need to pray for, to build a framework for your prayer structure.  Here are few TIPS that may help you to do this.  First determine the three or four main divisions of your prayer life. For our example, we chose Family, Church and Everything else.  Take each division and divide it into 7 days and assign a day of the week to each one. You can have one more division set up for the things you ask about yourself.  Then divide those into 7 days and put them on a day of the week. See the chart below.

Once you have set up your framework, you will add the specific request on the day that is appropriate.  For example, if someone from work is trying to sell their home, you would pray for that on Sunday when you pray for people at work.  You would put specific prayers for your pastor on the day you pray for your church leaders and so on.

There are many ways to make use of the reminder function of the app.  Of course you can set birthday reminders and things like that, but let’s go a little deeper. Consider using the reminders to bless others in these ways…

  • Contact people in your church that are elderly or lonely. Put their name on a day of the week or once a month so you can call and encourage them or take them a meal.
  • Set anniversary reminders when someone looses a loved one and call them next year on the date to encourage them and let them know you remember.
  • Follow up after your have prayed for someone.  Set a reminder to call them a week after surgery to see if they are getting better.
  • If you prayed for someone to get a job, set a reminder to call them at the end of the first day of work and ask them how the first day went.

The ways to bless others by using reminders are endless.

One more simple way to use a reminder is to set a reminder to remind yourself to set up a prayer request. Seems redundant, but it is practical.  If someone ask you to pray for something, you don’t want to enter the request, decide exactly when and what you will pray at that moment.  Instead set a reminder.  You need only enter 2-3 words and set the reminder for daily - beginning today.  Then you can set up the actual request how you want to later on.  But, if you forget to do that, the next day when you go to your ASK page, the reminder will be at the top of the page to remind you to set up the prayer request.

when you get to the
ask  page to begin your prayers for the day, you will see any reminders that you have at the top of the page. It's a great idea to set up a reminder to help you with your opening request.  this will be how you open in prayer each day before all the other request on your list.  set it as a reminder instead of as a prayer for yourself so that it appears on the top of your list.  consider including things like these:

  • begin by inviting god to be part of your day.
  • what's going on today?
  • what am i thankful for today?
  • who is on my heart today?
  • in what ways is god working on me?
  • for what do i need his help?
  • ask him to open my eyes to where he is working so i can join him.
  • ask him to help me think on him throughout my day.
  • ash him to help me see opportunities to share him with the people around me.
  • ask him to help me walk in faith and make him lord today.
  • ask the holy spirit to work in me and help me be attentive to his leading.

Once you have set up your requests and reminders, you are ready to begin the daily prayer process that walks you through the process of prayer as described at the beginning of this tour. Praise, Repent, Ask and Yield. On each page, read the material, meditate on the topic, talk to the Lord and move on to the next page.  On the Praise page, you will learn a little about an attribute of God, think on what about that attribute of God makes you praise, love and thank Him. On the Repent page, you will think a little about the things that separate you from God so that you will learn to work on those things. The Ask page list all our your request and reminders for that day. As you pray, you will mark the prayer that you prayed for it.  The last time you prayed will change to just now.  When you are praying for something once per week, this information will help you notice if you failed to pray the last time you were supposed to pray.  Hopefully this feature will help you keep account of how consistent you are and will help you improve in your faithfulness to praying.  The Yield page helps you sit quietly before the Lord and wait on Him.

This concludes the tour of How’s Your Prayer Life. It is my prayer that this app will help you incorporate the important elements of praise, thanksgiving, confession, repentance and submission into your prayer life and that in so doing, you will grow to love our Heavenly Father and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ with your whole being.  I pray that as you grow to love Him more, you will serve Him better and love others well.  May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
